When a EPF member unfortunately dies while in service, the spouse or dependent parents are eligible for the following benefits from EPFO.
- Provident Fund in Claim Form No. 20
- Widow/Widower pension or Dependent parent pension in F.No.10D
- Insurance amount in F.No. 5(if).
Here, there is a doubt regarding died while in service. It means that even though the member has proceeded on any kind of leave, but his/her name should be in the employer records. Wages for the period of absence may or may not paid by the employer, the employee is treated as died while in service. If a member dies while in service, then only the nominee is eligible for insurance amount which is up to 7 Lakhs. An eligible nominee has to submit the following documents to the nearest concerned EPFO office for taking further necessary action.
- Original Death Certificate of the deceased member
- Family members certificate
- Group photo of the family with attested of the employer.
- Bank account of the nominee along with the children who are below the age 25 years in the same bank through which the EPFO has agreement for disbursement of pension.
- Date of birth certificates of children with age of less than 25 years along with copies of Aadhar Cards of all.
- Died while in service certificate issued by the employer.
- Descriptive rolls of all the eligible pensioners.
- Any other document required by the EPFO.
